Corrections & retractions
A permanent record. A retraction does not erase its own trace: the withdrawn sentences are marked, the source they rested on is flagged as retracted, and the reason is stated. An encyclopedia that cannot show its own errors cannot be trusted when it is right.
Correction
Terminological correction. A distinguishing note has been added at the first use of “suku” to state that the matrilineal clan is meant and not the census category of ethnic group.
Rule change
Regional rule change. Buffalo counts for particular families' ceremonies are no longer recorded; figures are given as ranges with a year and without family names. This applies across all Toraja entries.
Correction
Date correction. The official classification of Aluk To Dolo as a branch of Hinduism was previously given as 1970; the correct year is 1969.
Correction
Numerical correction. The page count of the Leiden La Galigo copy was previously given as “about 6,000 pages”. That figure was incorrect and now reads about 2,851 folio pages, citing the holding institution's catalogue.
Retraction
Retraction. Two sentences concerning a “rain-calling dance” have been withdrawn in full. The statement rested on a single untraceable online source and was rejected by the Kanekes customary body. The replacement states that no such practice is recorded in any source that can be checked.
