The origin of this name is disputed and is the subject of a registered claim.
A Sundanese-speaking community in Kanekes village, Lebak, Banten, which practises Sunda Wiwitan and limits contact with the outside world to different degrees in Baduy Dalam and Baduy Luar.
Inner and Outer
Baduy Dalam occupies three settlements — Cibeo, Cikertawana and Cikeusik — with a deliberately small population. The prohibitions there are stricter: no motor vehicles, no footwear while travelling, no photography. Baduy Luar occupies the surrounding settlements under looser prohibition and functions as an intervening layer.

Seba
Seba is the annual visit of Kanekes emissaries to the district and provincial government of Lebak and Banten, bearing produce. It works as mutual acknowledgement: the community recognises the standing of the government, and the government recognises the existence and boundaries of the customary territory. Its timing is determined by the puun and differs each year, so the date cannot be fixed in advance.
