The central figure of La Galigo, a descendant of the upper world whose voyages span much of the corpus, including the prohibition on marrying his twin sister We Tenriabeng.

Place within the corpus

Sawerigading is not the figure of a single story but the axis of a descent sequence spanning several generations. Most surviving manuscripts contain portions of his voyage to China to marry We Cudai, the resolution of the prohibition concerning his twin.

The corpus has never been complete in any one manuscript; what exists are portions dispersed across many copies, with no single agreed order.
