A rejected form remains searchable so that older sources stay findable, but it is never used in the prose of an entry.
A group of batik patterns whose use is reserved to the Sultan, his family and particular court officers by decree of the court — not a style but a mark of rank, so that wearing one outside the provision is a statement about standing and not a choice of dress.
The patterns already published
A group of pattern names has been in general publication since the early twentieth century and is given here on that basis: parang rusak barong at its largest scale, kawung in particular forms, semen gedhe sawat gurda, udan liris and cemukiran. The reservation is graded — some to the Sultan alone, some extending to kin, others to officers for as long as they hold office.
What a reader needs to know is that scale also decides: two cloths bearing the same figure may hold different standing according to how large the field is. That distinction is illegible to a buyer who does not know it, and sales descriptions almost always give a pattern's name without its scale.
